Since 2018, there is a ban on the export of timber from Belarus.
But because of bark beetles, which destroy wood, the percentage of deforestation has increased. However, the domestic market does not consume such a large amount of wood.
So, the president of the Republic of Belarus signed a decree allowing the export of:
900,000 cubic meters of round timber
(Round tree trunks);
And two million cubic meters of sawn timber per year.
Timber prices in Belarus are about two times higher than the average market price.
